Maintaining Good Habits

Have you been struggling to learn a new language? Maybe you’ve been trying to exercise

more but “haven’t had the time to start”? Trying to maintain good habits can often be

challenging, particularly so when they are new or when you haven’t started to implement

them yet!

With this in mind, we have put together some ideas that each of you can use to help

maintain your good habits!

1. Make it part of your schedule / routine – this could be something simple like drinking

more water by having a glass with each meal, when you wake up or before you go to bed.

2. Create a positive and a supportive environment for yourself – with it already being

quite difficult to maintain good habits at times, it is important to have people around you the

will support and encourage you to carry on!

3. Setting alarms or reminders – life can get busy and stressful, making it easy to forget

about the habits that you’re trying to maintain.

4. Be kind to yourself and practice self-compassion – it’s important to not beat yourself

up over occasionally forgetting to keep up with your good habits. As we said above, life gets

busy and stressful so you shouldn’t add more on top of what’s already there.

5. Setting yourself goals and giving yourself rewards – it’s important to set short-term,

mid-term and long-term goals so that you give yourself much more achievable and realistic

steps to achieving what you want. For example, you’re halfway to achieving a 5kg fat loss

goal and want to celebrate it, then you deserve to treat yourself a bit. Have that glass of

wine, pint of beer or dessert that you might not normally have. The important thing to

remember is that this is a treat, not something that you will continue doing.
