2025 Goal Setting: Step By Step Guide
It’s nearly that time of year again - time to say hello to a fresh start in January and get back on track post christmas.
If you find that often it’s only a week before you give up on your goals then here’s our step by step guide on how to set the perfect goal for the new year!
Don’t choose a vague goal - be specific
Often we choose goals that are very generic such as losing weight or eating more fruit and veg - but these are such wide goals that become overwhelming and hard to stick to.
Choosing a more specific goal such as “ I would like to lose 2 kilos over the next month” or “I will increase the amount of vegetables in my diet by one portion each day” is likely to help you as it’s much more achievable.
It’s also measurable - there is a clear way to keep a track of whether you are sticking to it, giving you more focus and motivation!
2. Set Small Goals Too and Reward Yourself For Them
If you find new challenges overwhelming then a good strategy could be to set smaller goals alongside that.
For example if your goal was to go to the gym 5 days a week, you could set yourself a small side goal of for the first two weeks of January, you try for 3 sessions. If you achieve this after two weeks, you can reward yourself - maybe a new gym top or taking yourself out for a coffee?
Giving yourself a little reward for staying on track often motivates you to keep going and get to the bigger goal!
3. Write The Goal Down
Once you;ve set your goal and you are happy with it, write it down on apiece of paper and put it in a place that you see daily. This will be a constant reminder and you won’t be able to forget what you should be working on.
Sometimes it can be good to create a sheet where you tick things off everyday, this way you can visibly see how well you are doing.
4. Tell people About Your Goal
Now you ahve set your goal, tell everyone! By getting other people involved it will give you more accountability and improve your chances of showing up and putting the work in - otherwise you’ll have to face everyone and tell them you haven’t been doing it!
Maybe get a friend involved and go to the gym together to keep each other motivated? Send your new recipes to your family for inspiration! Whatever helps you to show up - make that a priortiy!
